First dates aren't the time to head to your apartment to watch YouTube videos on the couch.

First dates aren’t the time to head to your apartment to watch YouTube videos on the couch.

You don’t want to be awkward on your first date. So don’t go to the following places which almost guarantee an uncomfortable first meeting.

  • Stay away from your house. This is not wise. Go someplace public.
  • Stay away from your parent’s house. Maybe a little too early to meet the family.
  • If you’re over 20, don’t go to the mall to shop. Trying on shoes while he/she gives their opinion. Boring.
  • Movies. How you going to get to know the other person if you are sitting in the dark wondering if you should hold her hand? Or worse, are you going to perform that big wide-armed yawn that puts your arm around her shoulders? Just skip the movie.
  • A concert. Once again you can’t talk. Of course, if you know this is the other person’s favorite musical group, go for it.
  • A noisy party, probably not best for a first date.

A noisy club. Once again, how are you going to talk?

  • Camping. Maybe this is the other extreme. Too much time to talk. Too alone.
  • Anywhere you invite your best friend to come along with. Don’t make anything a threesome.
  • High school reunion
  • Any religious service if you both aren’t of the same faith.
  • Fast food joint.
  • Family reunion. Do we really have to explain all of these?
  • Casino or race track. What if one of you wins and the other loses?
  • If we have to tell you that a strip club is a bad choice, then maybe you’re not ready for a “real” relationship.
  • Ditto for taking a first date to a hotel.

There are many good ideas for a first date. Just skip the ones listed above.
